Introduction
to the department:
The Department of Food Sciences and Human Nutrition (FSHN)
consists of two parts (male and female sections). Both parts are located at the
university’s main campus. The department contains two important
specializations: the food science specialization and the human nutrition
specialization. Each of them complements the other, in which the graduates will
be able to contribute in providing healthy food to meet the needs of consumers
and society members. This is done by studying courses about food manufacturing
and preservation, following international rules in food quality and safety, as
well as nutritional health affairs, in addition to specialized courses in the
field of human nutrition, such as assessing nutritional status, meal planning,
nutrition during the different stages of life, therapeutic nutrition, community
nutrition, nutrition education, and nutritional counseling. Which is concerned
with spreading food and nutritional awareness among society members about how
to cover their nutritional needs during the stages of life in health and
illness and feeding special and sensitive groups.
Through its academic programs, the
department is also interested in providing students with the necessary skills
to work, whether in food and dairy factories, in hospital nutrition
departments, in food safety and control institutions, the Saudi Standards
Organization, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, universities, and scientific
research centers.
The department has a clear vision of serving the community to contribute to
sustainable development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the department is
interested in meeting the needs of the labor market and raising the status of
the department’s graduates to be distinguished locally and globally.
The department seeks to disseminate knowledge and
contribute to improving the lifestyle in society through integration between
both the fields of food science and human nutrition, using an advanced
educational environment and effective research cooperation.
Department’s Mission:
Developing and transferring knowledge and acquiring
skills in the field of food science and human nutrition by providing accredited
and advanced academic programs, applied research, and consulting services to
contribute to serving the community and meeting its needs.
Department’s Objectives:

Qualifying specialists in the fields of food
science and human nutrition with the knowledge and skills appropriate for the
labor market.

Developing knowledge in food science and human
nutrition by conducting applied research.

Disseminating knowledge in the field of food
science and human nutrition and contributing to food security, environmental
and community development .

Following up on the latest scientific and
technological developments in food science and human nutrition, and use it in the
development of education, training and scientific research .
Linking the department’s objectives with the college’s
objectives:
